1. Who we are
Journal-Papers Finder is developed by Janalytics ("we," "us," "our"). This policy explains what information we collect when you use the Journal-Papers Finder mobile app, why we collect it, and the choices you have.
2. Information we collect
When you create an account or use the app, we collect:
| Data | Why we collect it |
|---|---|
| Email address, full name, phone number | To create and secure your account |
| Account type (individual/organization) and organization name, if provided | To personalize your account |
| Search queries and search results (papers, extracted study details) | To power the search feature and let you revisit past searches in History |
| Purchase status (active plan, e.g. Pro/Premium) | To determine your search allowance |
Payment details (card numbers, billing address) are handled entirely by Google Play Billing. We never see or store your payment information — Google shares with us only the fact that a purchase was made and which product was purchased.
3. Information we do not collect
We do not collect your device location, contacts, photos, or browsing history outside the app. We do not use advertising SDKs, and the app contains no ads.
4. How we use your information
- To authenticate you and operate your account
- To run the searches you request and generate AI-extracted study summaries
- To save your search history so you can revisit and re-export past results
- To generate PDF/Word export files you request
- To enforce your plan's monthly search allowance
- To send transactional emails (welcome, purchase receipts, export-ready notices) from our mail service
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.
5. Third-party services we use
- Google Firebase (Authentication, Firestore database, Cloud Functions, Cloud Storage) — hosts your account data, search history, and powers the backend
- Google Play Billing — processes all purchases and subscriptions
- OpenAlex, CrossRef, and Semantic Scholar — public academic databases we query using your search terms to find papers. We do not send them any personal account information, only the search query itself
- An AI service used to generate the study-detail extractions (objective, methodology, findings, etc.) from paper abstracts
6. Data retention and deletion
Your account data and search history are kept until you delete them. You can delete an individual search at any time from the History screen in the app, or delete your entire account directly from Settings. To request deletion without the app installed, see our account deletion page.
7. Data security
Data is encrypted in transit using HTTPS/TLS. Access to your data is restricted to your authenticated account via Firebase security rules — other users cannot see your searches or account details.
8. Children's privacy
Journal-Papers Finder is intended for students, researchers, and academics, and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
9. Your rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal information, or to object to certain processing. Contact us using the details below to exercise these rights.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
